AEFUNAI DEAN OF STUDENTS AFFAIRS CLARIFIES SUG ELECTION PROCESS AMID STUDENT REJECTIONS OF IKWO PRESIDENCY
The Dean of Student Affairs at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike (AEFUNAI), in an official communication with SHAST, has addressed growing student concerns over the Ikwo SUG Presidency.
This follows a SHAST report highlighting divided opinions among students, with many rejecting the Ikwo SUG leadership and citing negative experiences with some indigenes, while a smaller group expressed support.
In response, the Dean stated that no new election has been conducted and campaigns have not yet started. He emphasized that the current Executive Council still has time before their tenure ends and questioned the basis for rejecting any candidate before elections are held. He assured that no candidate will be “schemed in or out” and that the next leadership will emerge solely based on the popular vote of the student body.
The Dean’s statement seeks to clarify that the university management does not influence SUG outcomes and that the electoral process remains entirely in the hands of the students.
