AEFUNAI Responds to Viral Open Letter Alleging ₦14.4m Salary Fraud, Says Staff Appointment Was Terminated Years Ago
An open letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI) has circulated online, raising allegations concerning the employment status and salary payments of a staff member identified as Mr. Clifford Enyita Iteshi.
The letter, authored by a group describing themselves as concerned citizens, claimed that Mr. Iteshi had allegedly remained on the university payroll for several years without rendering service, and further suggested that he may have relocated abroad during the period in question. It also called for an investigation into the matter and proposed recovery of funds reportedly linked to the allegation.

The publication, which quickly gained attention on social media, urged the university management to review internal records, clarify the staff member’s status, and take action if any irregularities were discovered.
However, in response to the circulating claims, the university management has clarified that the matter had already been addressed internally. According to the institution, Mr. Clifford Enyita Iteshi’s appointment was terminated over three years ago, effectively ending his employment with the university.
The management’s clarification suggests that the claims contained in the viral letter may be based on outdated or incorrect information regarding the staff member’s current status.
