FG Launches Digital Learner IDs for 1.9 Million Exam Candidates

The Federal Government has initiated a major national reform in the education sector with the official rollout of the Learner Identification Number (LIN). In its first phase, launched on April 10, 2026, the system has successfully generated digital IDs for 1.9 million candidates currently registered for the 2026 WAEC and NECO senior school certificate examinations.

The LIN system is designed to act as a permanent academic tracker, linking a student’s educational journey from primary school to the tertiary level. By integrating this system with the National Identification Number (NIN), the Ministry of Education aims to permanently eliminate “miracle centres,” result racketeering, and exam impersonation. This “digital birth certificate” for education ensures that a student’s identity remains consistent across all national databases.

Education officials confirmed that the LIN will eventually become a mandatory requirement for all academic processes, including JAMB registration, NYSC mobilization, and the processing of university transcripts. This digitisation marks a significant shift toward a transparent, data-driven education system in Nigeria, allowing the government to track academic progression and resource allocation with 100% accuracy.
