Fire Outbreak in Girls’ Hostel: Students Battle Flames for 30 Minutes as Extinguisher Fails

Panic erupted in the girls’ hostel today after a gas fire broke out and the available fire extinguisher reportedly failed to function.

According to a student eyewitness, the incident began while many occupants were asleep.

“I was sleeping when I heard shouts and screams. Everyone was running helter-skelter with files, luggage and other properties. Someone’s gas caught fire and it couldn’t be quenched. We had to pack sand several times and pour water before it was put out. For about 30 minutes, the fire was still on,” the student said.

Students reportedly used sand and water repeatedly before the flames were eventually subdued.

No casualties have been confirmed at the time of filing this report. However, the incident has raised concerns among students over the functionality of safety equipment in the hostel.
