No Approved Realtors Association in AEFUNAI, Management Warns Against Exploitation.

Students of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike have raised concerns over alleged harassment and extortion by a group operating under the name “AEFUNAI Realtors/Agents Association.”

Several students who spoke with SHAST Campus News alleged that individuals claiming to represent the association have been demanding registration fees and issuing threats of enforcement through a so-called “taskforce.”

The clarification became necessary following reports that a person identified as the “Chairman” of the association allegedly warned that force could be used against students who fail to register.

Management Reacts

In response to an inquiry sent by SHAST Campus News, the university management stated that no Realtors Association has been approved by the institution.

“As far as I know and can ascertain from available records, no Realtors Association has been approved by the university. Consequently, no such body is entitled to extort, harass or threaten our students under any guise.

We, therefore, urge various social and economic interest groups to refrain from any form of exploitation of the students some of whom are already finding it difficult to cope with the current economic realities in the country. It will, therefore, be unfair and unconscionable for anyone to add to the heavy burdens which many poor students are bearing at this period.”

This position aligns with an earlier communication reportedly issued by the then Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Charles Okolie, which indicated that the association had not been approved and should cease operations.

Call for Caution

In light of the management’s clarification, students are advised to exercise caution and report any form of intimidation or financial demand made under the name of any unapproved association to the appropriate university authorities.
