NELFUND Loan: Fix ‘Pending’ Status and Missed ₦20k Upkeep Before March 11 Deadline
If you are a Nigerian student right now, I know the stress you’re carrying. Between going through academic stress and checking your bank app every 30 minutes for that ₦20,000 upkeep alert, the “Pending” status on your NELFUND dashboard is starting to feel like a personal attack.
With the March 11, 2026, deadline just 48 hours away, many of you are asking: “I applied weeks ago, why hasn’t my school verified me?” or “Will I be allowed to write exams if my tuition hasn’t been paid?”
Let’s stop the guesswork. Here is exactly what is happening behind the scenes and how you can fix it before the portal shuts down.
1. The “Institutional Verification” Trap (The Real Reason You’re Stuck)
Most students think NELFUND is the one delaying. The truth? In many cases, it’s your school’s ICT or Bursary department.
For NELFUND to release your money, your school must upload a Verified Student List to the portal (SLAS). If your name isn’t on that list, NELFUND doesn’t know you’re actually a registered student this semester.
The Solution: Don’t wait for a miracle. Walk into your school’s ICT Center or Student Affairs Office today. Ask them point-blank: “Has the list for Batch B NELFUND applicants been uploaded?” Your physical presence can often push a “forgotten” file to the top of the pile.

2. The ₦20,000 Upkeep: Did You “Tick the Box”?
I’ve seen many students get their tuition paid to the school, but they aren’t getting the monthly allowance.
The Fix: Log into your dashboard NOW. Check your application summary. If you didn’t specifically request the “Upkeep Allowance” during your initial application, you won’t get it. You have until March 11 to update your profile or contact NELFUND support via their “Help Desk” on the portal.
3. “No Results Found” – The JAMB/NIN Conflict
If you’re still seeing “No Results Found” when searching for your institution, it’s likely a data mismatch. If your name on your NIN is “Musa Chioma Adekunle” but your JAMB profile says “Musa C. Adekunle,” the system will reject you.
The Fix: Ensure your details match exactly. If they don’t, use these last 48 hours to visit a NIMC center or use the JAMB CAPS mobile app to verify your data.
Editor’s Note: The March 11 deadline is not just for new applications; it’s for corrections too. Once that portal closes, the “Edit” button disappears.
