FEDERAL UNITY COLLEGES: FG REAFFIRMS SEPTEMBER 14 RESUMPTION DESPITE UNION SUSPENSION

The Federal Government has reaffirmed that all Federal Unity Colleges nationwide will resume academic activities on Monday, September 14, 2026, despite a directive by education unions suspending resumption over the concession of King’s College, Lagos.The Joint Congress of Unions of the Federal Ministry of Education had directed that students should not resume in Federal Unity Colleges until further notice.In a communiqué dated September 10, the unions said the decision was in response to the Federal Government’s concession of King’s College, Lagos, to the King’s College Old Boys’ Association.The directive covers Federal Government Colleges, Federal Government Boys’ Colleges, Federal Government Girls’ Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges across the country.The unions said no resumption should take place until the issue surrounding the King’s College concession was resolved and the planned concession reversed.However, the Federal Ministry of Education on Friday, September 11, reaffirmed that all Federal Unity Colleges would resume on Monday as scheduled.The ministry said relevant security agencies had been informed of the resumption arrangements and were maintaining heightened vigilance around the colleges and their immediate environments.Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, urged parents and guardians to remain calm and rely on official information as preparations continue for the new academic session.The ministry also directed school authorities to maintain close coordination with security agencies and other relevant authorities to facilitate an orderly and secure resumption.
