FG Declares April 3 & 6 Public Holidays for Easter as Students React Across Campuses
The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3 (Good Friday) and Monday, April 6 (Easter Monday) as public holidays.
The announcement was made in a statement by the Federal Ministry of Interior, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The holidays are to allow Christians observe Easter.
With Easter Sunday on April 5, the declaration creates a four-day break for students, civil servants, and many workers.
Across campuses, the response has been largely positive. Students describe the break as timely, coming amid lectures, assignments, and tests.
On Facebook and other student platforms, reactions were immediate. Many welcomed the opportunity to rest, travel, or attend church programmes. Others said they would use the time to catch up on academic work.

Some reactions were more critical. A number of students acknowledged the holiday but pointed to ongoing concerns such as insecurity and economic hardship.
Despite this, the general mood remains positive. The break offers time for rest and personal activities before academic schedules resume.
Institutions and workplaces are expected to reopen on Tuesday, April 7.
