Nigeria Starts Cricket Tournament With Two Victories in One Day


Nigeria got off to a strong start at the Nigeria Cricket Federation Quadrangular T20 Series after recording two victories on the opening day of the tournament. Nigeria A defeated Sierra Leone by 33 runs, while the senior Nigerian side defeated Ghana by eight wickets at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval in Lagos. In the first match, Nigeria A posted 113 runs for eight wickets from its allotted 20 overs. Olayinka Olaleye top-scored with 25 runs from 32 balls, while Mohammed Taiwo contributed an unbeaten 28 from 20 balls. Nigeria A’s bowlers then restricted Sierra Leone to 80 runs before the side was bowled out in 19.5 overs. Elochukwu Ndubudem was among Nigeria’s standout bowlers, taking three wickets for 10 runs in four overs. Mustapha Yussuf also claimed three wickets, while Gafar Kareem took two. The senior team produced another convincing performance against Ghana. Nigeria’s two victories gave the hosts an encouraging opening to the quadrangular competition and provided an early boost as the tournament continues. The competition is part of the country’s ongoing cricket activities and provides an opportunity for players to compete at international level on home soil. Attention will now turn to Nigeria’s remaining fixtures as the teams continue their campaign in Lagos.
