Digital Literacy Drive Targets Women and Girls in Bauchi, Kano

A fresh digital literacy initiative is seeking stronger support for programmes designed to improve digital skills and economic opportunities for women and girls in Bauchi and Kano states. The Centre for Information Technology and Development is seeking partnerships to address what it describes as the gender digital divide. The initiative focuses on improving access to digital knowledge and creating opportunities for women and girls to participate more actively in the digital economy. Digital skills have become increasingly important in Nigeria as more businesses, educational institutions and government services move online. For young people, digital literacy can provide access to online learning, remote employment, entrepreneurship and other opportunities. However, access to devices, reliable internet services, training and affordable connectivity remains a challenge for many communities. Programmes aimed specifically at women and girls are therefore increasingly being promoted as a way of expanding participation in the technology and digital economy. Stakeholders behind the initiative are seeking partnerships that can help increase the reach of digital training and business support. The focus on Bauchi and Kano comes amid wider national efforts to expand digital inclusion and ensure that people in different parts of Nigeria can benefit from technological development. If effectively implemented, such programmes could help more women and girls develop practical skills that can be applied to education, business and employment.
