The Nigerian naira maintained relative stability against the United States dollar on Friday, October 2, 2026, with the currency trading around the ₦1,329-per-dollar level in the official foreign exchange market. Data from the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market indicated a dollar rate of approximately ₦1,328.17, while the Central Bank of Nigeria reference rate stood around ₦1,329.16. The latest movement comes after a period of relative stability in the official foreign exchange market. On September 30, the naira reportedly closed at about ₦1,329.50 per dollar at the NFEM, compared with approximately ₦1,331 on the previous trading day. The relatively stable movement has attracted attention because exchange-rate changes can have a direct effect on the cost of imported goods, business operations and household expenses. Import-dependent businesses closely monitor the foreign exchange market because movements in the naira can affect the cost of importing machinery, raw materials and finished products. Consumers also feel the effects of exchange-rate movements through the prices of products with imported components. While the latest official figures indicate relative stability, exchange rates can change during trading sessions and differ across official and parallel markets. The naira’s performance therefore remains an important economic indicator as the Federal Government continues its broader economic reform programme. Businesses and consumers will continue to watch the foreign exchange market closely for signs of sustained stability or renewed pressure on the currency.
