NELFUND Debunks Fake Suspension Notice and Addresses LAUTECH Loan Delays

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has issued a critical update to the public, debunking a viral document that claimed the student loan disbursement program had been suspended. In a statement released on Saturday, April 18, 2026, the agency labeled the document as fake and confirmed that all loan operations remain active and ongoing.  

Addressing recent reports of non-payment to students at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), NELFUND clarified that claims regarding 15,000 unpaid students are misleading. The agency stated that only 5,237 applications were submitted by the institution for the current cycle within the past week. This batch has already been processed and approved, moving into the final financial clearance stage for disbursement.  

LAUTECH management has also addressed the situation, explaining that a misinterpretation of a pre-convocation briefing led to the rumors of a “halt” in payments. The university confirmed that it maintains a productive partnership with NELFUND, noting that over ₦1.4 billion was successfully disbursed to its students during the 2025 academic session.  

As of April 2026, NELFUND records show that over 1.7 million students have applied for the scheme nationwide, with more than 1.1 million already benefiting. The agency emphasized that disbursements are strictly dependent on institutional verification and urged all partner schools to ensure timely and accurate submission of student data to avoid payment delays.
