Veteran Nollywood actor Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.The actor’s death was announced on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, by his family.In a statement shared by his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, the family announced his passing while describing him as “The Lion of Lufodo.”“It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought, that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo.“Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs (MFR)“11/07/1942 – 16/09/2026.”The family also appealed to bloggers and social media influencers to respect their privacy as they mourn the veteran actor.Olu Jacobs was one of Nigeria’s most respected actors, with a career spanning theatre, television and film. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before appearing in British television productions and international films.He later became a major figure in Nollywood, known for his commanding performances, distinctive voice and roles as kings, chiefs, traditional rulers and patriarchs.Jacobs was also a co-founder of the Lufodo Group and the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts alongside Joke Silva.
