URGENT: WAEC Extends 2026 WASSCE Registration Deadline to March 13 – Final Warning for Candidates
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced an extension for the registration of the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
This announcement comes as a relief to thousands of students, parents, and school administrators across Nigeria who have been struggling with technical challenges and documentation issues during the first-ever transition to a fully computer-based testing (CBT) model.
New WAEC Registration Deadline for 2026
In a statement approved by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, the new and final deadline for registration is now Friday, March 13, 2026.
The Council emphasized that this extension was granted specifically to allow prospective candidates enough time to resolve pending registration issues, including NIN verification and biometric captures.

Why was the deadline extended?
- Transition to CBT: 2026 marks the first year that the May/June WASSCE is fully computer-based. Many schools have reported slow portal response times.
- Verification Issues: Several candidates have faced delays in synchronizing their National Identification Numbers (NIN) with the WAEC portal.
- Ministerial Intervention: The Federal Government intervened to ensure no student is disenfranchised due to the new digital system.
”No Further Extensions”
WAEC has sent a stern warning to all stakeholders: March 13 is the absolute final date. The Council stated that no further extensions will be granted after this Friday, as the examination timetable is already being finalized for the April/May kickoff.
Action Plan for Students and Schools
- Validate your NIN: Ensure your NIN details match your school records to avoid portal rejection.
- Visit Accredited Centers: If your school’s internal portal is lagging, consult with a WAEC-approved registration center immediately.
- Finalize Payments: Ensure all administrative fees are cleared before the Friday cutoff to avoid being locked out of the system.
