Osun on Alert as DSS Warns of Alleged Terror Plot Targeting Worship Centres

Osun State has been placed on heightened security alert following a warning from the Department of State Services (DSS) over an alleged plan by terrorists to attack places of worship and other crowded locations in the state. The warning has sparked increased security awareness among religious communities, with Christian and Muslim leaders urged to take precautionary measures to protect worshippers and other members of the public. According to reports, DSS officials held separate meetings with representatives of the Muslim community and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Osogbo on Wednesday, September 9, where the leaders were briefed about the alleged threat. The security warning is not limited to churches and mosques. Reports indicate that other locations where large numbers of people gather, including markets, schools, clubs and viewing centres, could also be vulnerable. Religious leaders were reportedly advised to strengthen security arrangements, remain vigilant and pay attention to unfamiliar people or suspicious movements around their facilities. The intelligence reportedly relates to concerns that terrorists could attempt to spread insecurity into the South-West as part of efforts to create tension ahead of the 2027 general elections. He also directed security agencies to review their arrangements for protecting lives and property. Adeleke also commended the DSS for its proactive intelligence gathering and said he would convene a State Security Council meeting to assess the situation and strengthen the state’s response.
