Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued six kidnapped victims during separate operations in Kaduna and Katsina states. The victims were rescued on Thursday, September 17, following military responses to intelligence reports and distress calls concerning terrorist activities in the two states. In Kaduna State, troops of Sector 1 reportedly received intelligence about a kidnapping incident in the Igabi Local Government Area and moved to the area. The troops encountered suspected terrorists who were allegedly moving with some kidnapped victims. According to the military, the attackers fled after sighting the advancing troops, abandoning the victims in the process. Three victims — Enock Hussaini, Abba Dauda and Kalif Haruna were subsequently rescued. The three victims were reportedly abducted from Gidan Gulbi Village on September 11. Following their rescue, they were debriefed and reunited with their families, while troops remained in the area to prevent further attacks. A separate operation was conducted in Katsina State after troops of Sector 2 received a distress call concerning the abduction of civilians along the Dandume-Damari axis in Dandume Local Government Area. The troops quickly mobilised to the area and reportedly made contact with the suspected terrorists. The military said the attackers fled into nearby bushes after coming under pressure from the troops. Three additional kidnapped victims were rescued during the operation. They were identified as Abubakar Abdulkadir, 25; Mansir Idris, 26; and Abubakar Aliyu, 21. A black Golf vehicle belonging to the victims was also recovered. The rescued victims were subsequently escorted by the troops and released to continue their journey. The military said the operations formed part of its continued efforts to protect civilians, disrupt terrorist activities and restrict the movement of criminal elements across the North-West. Security authorities have also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
