A Nigerian software programmer, Olaniran Taiwo Sikiru, has secured a silver medal at an international high-tech championship in Russia. Sikiru finished second in the Quality Control Specialist for Transport Logistics Processes category at the High-Tech Championship Final held in Veliky Novgorod. The competition took place from September 14 to 18, 2026, bringing together more than 15,000 participants from 30 foreign countries alongside representatives from all 89 Russian regions. Competitors participated across 20 high-tech competencies. Sikiru represented Nigeria as part of the country’s first delegation to compete at the championship. He was accompanied by Ojetimi Abdulfatai, who served as his mentor and technical expert throughout the competition. Although Sikiru is a software programmer, his competition category focused on the intersection of technology, logistics, quality control and modern transportation systems. His second-place finish placed him among the leading competitors in his specialised field at the international event. The Nigerian delegation’s participation also marked the country’s first representation at the High-Tech Championship. The achievement has highlighted the growing participation of Nigerian technology professionals in international skills competitions. For Sikiru and his technical expert, the event provided an opportunity to demonstrate Nigerian expertise on a global platform. The result also creates a notable milestone for Nigeria in an international competition centred on high-tech and professional skills.
