The Plateau State Government has disbursed ₦1.5 billion in humanitarian assistance to 1,579 people affected by violent attacks across five local government areas of the state. The intervention was supervised by Governor Caleb Mutfwang during a ceremony in Jos on Monday. According to reports, the package consisted of ₦1 billion donated by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu through the Renewed Hope Initiative and ₦500 million contributed by the Plateau State Government. The beneficiaries came from Mangu, Bokkos, Barkin-Ladi, Riyom and Bassa local government areas. The communities have experienced repeated episodes of violence that have resulted in deaths, destruction of property and displacement. The financial intervention is intended to provide humanitarian support to people affected by the attacks as they attempt to recover from the consequences of the violence. At the disbursement ceremony, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda spoke about the effects of displacement and the difficulties experienced by affected communities. The assistance comes against the backdrop of continuing efforts by authorities and humanitarian organisations to support residents affected by violence in Plateau State. For many victims, financial assistance can help address immediate needs arising from displacement and loss of property, although the wider challenge of restoring lasting security remains. The latest disbursement therefore represents both a relief measure for affected residents and another response to the humanitarian consequences of recurring violence in the state.
