Plateau State University Appoints Two Female Deputy Vice-Chancellors



Plateau State University, Bokkos, has appointed two female academics as Deputy Vice-Chancellors, making the institution the second Nigerian university reported to have two female DVCs serving simultaneously. The university announced the appointment of Associate Professor Keziah Ayuba as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, and Associate Professor Martha Niri Choji as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic. The appointments were approved during the university’s 106th Special Senate Meeting held on September 29, 2026. According to the institution, Ayuba was reappointed for a second two-year term after completing her first tenure, while Choji was appointed for the first time to replace Professor Pyefa Galadima, who had served two terms as DVC Academic from 2022. The appointments followed nominations by the Vice-Chancellor in accordance with the university’s governing law and were unanimously approved by Senate. Choji brings experience in academic and administrative roles to her new position. She has previously served as Head of the Mathematics Department, Head of the Remedial Science Programme and Head of the Department of Statistics. The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shedrack Best, said the appointments reflected his administration’s commitment to equity, inclusivity and merit. He also charged the newly appointed DVCs to settle into their responsibilities as the institution prepares for a new academic session and accreditation exercises. According to the Vice-Chancellor, the university is due for accreditation of 11 programmes, making academic administration a significant priority for the institution. The development also places Plateau State University in a notable position in Nigeria’s university system. The university said it has now joined the University of Ibadan as the second Nigerian university reported to have two female Deputy Vice-Chancellors serving at the same time. The new appointments are expected to strengthen the university’s administrative and academic leadership as it begins another phase of its institutional development.
