PTI Matriculates 2,101 Students in Delta and Warns Against Cultism

The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, has officially matriculated 2,101 new students for the 2025/2026 academic session. The ceremony, which took place on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the institute’s campus, saw the induction of students into various National Diploma, Higher National Diploma, and School of Industrial and Continuous Education (SICE) programmes.

In his address, the Principal and Chief Executive of the institute, Dr. Samuel Onoji, who was represented by the Director of Research and Development, Dr. Tina Isichei, congratulated the new intakes on their successful admission. He reminded the students that they were entering a highly specialized institution known as the “citadel of excellence” in the oil and gas sector.

Dr. Onoji used the occasion to issue a strong warning against social vices, emphasizing that the institute maintains a zero-tolerance policy. He specifically highlighted that PTI has no room for cultism, examination misconduct, physical or sexual assault, drug abuse, and theft. He further cautioned against indecent dressing and the misuse of social media, warning that any student found violating the institute’s handbook would face immediate consequences, including expulsion.

Beyond discipline, the Principal urged the students to embrace emerging technologies to remain competitive in the dynamic petroleum industry. He encouraged them to familiarize themselves with tools like Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and data analytics, noting that these competencies are now essential for employability in the global energy market.

The ceremony concluded with the administration of the matriculation oath, where students from across the 36 states of the federation pledged to uphold the laws of the institute. Parents and guardians present were also encouraged to provide the necessary moral and financial support to help their wards successfully navigate their academic journey unscathed.
