UNIZIK Governing Council Appoints New Librarian and Key Directors

The Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has approved the appointment of a new University Librarian and six directors to lead various strategic units. These appointments were ratified during the Council’s 21st Emergency Meeting held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the university’s Council Chambers.  

According to a statement released on Saturday, April 18, 2026, the selection process was rigorous and merit-based, aimed at filling critical vacancies and strengthening the institution’s administrative and academic framework. The new officers are expected to reposition the university for improved service delivery and institutional growth.  

Professor Jacintha Ukamaka Eze has been appointed as the new University Librarian. Joining her in the new leadership team are several key directors: Dr. Jane Ezeonu, who takes over as the Director of Medical Services; Engr. Ibe Obinna, appointed as the Director of Works Services; and Mr. Pascal Akuma, who becomes the Director of Procurement. Other notable appointments include Engr. Lawrence Ezeokafor as the Director of Physical Planning, Mr. Collins Obi as the Chief Safety Officer, and Aloysius Emeka Attah—a veteran journalist and correspondent for The Sun Newspaper—as the Director of Information and Public Relations.  

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Barr. Monsur Olugbenga Kukoyi, presented the appointment letters and urged the new officers to justify the confidence reposed in them. He emphasized that diligence, integrity, and accountability are non-negotiable values for those occupying these sensitive offices. He further encouraged them to serve as worthy ambassadors of Nnamdi Azikiwe University at both national and international levels.  

All appointments officially took effect on April 17, 2026, and are for a single tenure of five years. This administrative reshuffle is seen as a strategic move to drive efficiency and ensure the university remains competitive in the Nigerian tertiary education landscape.
