JAMB Apologizes Over Technical Delays in Result Portal
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has formally apologized to candidates and the public for the unexpected delay in releasing the second batch of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results. The apology comes after thousands of candidates who sat for the examination on Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18, 2026, were left in suspense following a setback in the board’s earlier promised timeline.
In a statement released on Sunday morning by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board explained that the delay was primarily due to the temporary absence of the Chief Executive, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who was away on an essential official engagement. The board admitted that while the results for Friday candidates were originally scheduled for release by Saturday evening, the process could not be finalized without the necessary administrative clearance.
“We sincerely apologize for the delay in releasing the results for Friday, 17th April, which is the second batch in the series as earlier promised,” the statement read. The board specifically addressed candidates who stayed up late into the night checking their phones, thanking them for their patience and resilience during the wait.
Beyond the administrative delay, reports from various Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers indicated that minor technical glitches and power supply issues also contributed to the backlog. JAMB confirmed that while 98% of the 980 centers nationwide operated smoothly, about 16 centers experienced significant technical faults that required the rescheduling of some candidates. The board assured those affected that their interests are protected and that the system has been optimized to handle the heavy traffic on the SMS result-checking platform.
By Sunday evening, JAMB confirmed that the technical hurdles had been cleared and over 1.2 million results from the affected days were successfully pushed to the servers. The board reiterated that candidates should continue using the official SMS codes 55019 or 66019 to access their scores, as the online portal remains under maintenance for result slip printing.
