UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL OPENS FIRST INTERNATIONAL CAMPUS IN MUMBAI

The University of Bristol has officially opened its first international campus in Mumbai, India, and welcomed its inaugural student cohort.The University of Bristol Mumbai Enterprise Campus is located at Cignus Powai, opposite the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay.The university said the campus will focus on education, research, innovation and collaboration with industry, while providing students with opportunities for global academic mobility.The campus is expected to support research collaborations, experiential learning and partnerships with industry. Selected undergraduate students will also have opportunities to spend part of their studies at the University of Bristol’s UK campus through the university’s Global Mobility programme.Academic activities for the inaugural cohort began with a three-week pre-semester programme under the Bristol Global Futures Lab.The university said the programme included industry-led sessions focused on self-awareness, individual strengths and building meaningful relationships.The Mumbai Enterprise Campus will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with initial areas including data science and finance.The university also has a strategic partnership with IIT Bombay, with collaboration focused on translational research and innovative teaching.The opening ceremony also featured the University of Bristol-Government of Maharashtra Scholarship recipients, while the university conferred an honorary degree on writer, translator and journalist Shanta Gokhale.University of Bristol President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Evelyn Welch, described the opening as a significant milestone in the university’s relationship with Maharashtra.The university said the Mumbai campus forms part of its broader engagement with India’s education, research, innovation and industry sectors.
