Veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has celebrated legendary actress Joke Silva as she marks her 65th birthday, describing her as a cherished friend, colleague and “younger sister” whose contribution to Nigeria’s creative industry remains immeasurable.
In a heartfelt birthday tribute shared on Instagram, RMD looked back on more than four decades of friendship and professional association with the celebrated actress.
His message, however, carried an emotional undertone as Silva continues to mourn the loss of her husband and fellow Nollywood icon, Olu Jacobs, who died on September 16 at the age of 84.
“Even as you mourn the love of your life, Uncle Jay, we are reminded of your life of grace, your dedication and your love of not just family, but your craft and your country,” RMD wrote.
The veteran actor went on to celebrate Silva’s remarkable journey and the impact she has made both on and off screen.
“Your contribution to our industry, your commitment to excellence and the lives you have touched over the years are immeasurable,” he added.
RMD also described it as a privilege to witness Silva’s journey, praising the sacrifices she has made for her family, her craft and the growth of Nigeria’s creative industry.
“You have given so much of yourself to your family, your craft and to the growth of our creative industry, and it is a privilege to witness and celebrate the woman you have become.”
Silva, whose career has spanned theatre, television and film, remains one of the most recognised figures in Nigerian entertainment. Alongside Olu Jacobs, she also co-founded Lufodo Productions, further cementing their contribution to Nigeria’s performing arts.
As Joke Silva turns 65, RMD’s tribute goes beyond a birthday message. It is a celebration of decades of artistry, friendship, resilience and service to an industry they have both helped shape.
He concluded his message with wishes for strength, peace, joy and many more years, reminding Silva that she remains “celebrated, cherished and honoured.”
