TETFund Releases 2026 Intervention Figures for 271 Tertiary Institutions

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has officially announced the disbursement figures for its 2026 intervention cycle. Executive Secretary Arc. Sonny Echono confirmed that 271 federal and state-owned tertiary institutions will receive multi-billion naira allocations aimed at infrastructure, research, and technical development.  

Breakdown of 2026 Allocations

The 2026 disbursement guidelines provide a specific flat-rate allocation for institutions within each category. Each University is set to receive N2,525,932,228.02, while Polytechnics will get N1,871,059,920.53. Colleges of Education have been allocated N2,056,527,973.04 per institution.  

Disbursement Strategy

Echono revealed that 90.75% of the total intervention funds would be released as direct disbursements. This is split into an Annual Direct Disbursement at 50% and a Special Direct Disbursement at 40.75%. The remaining 9.25% is reserved for stabilization and designated projects.  

New Research Initiative: NgREN

A major highlight of the 2026 cycle is the introduction of the Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN). This new intervention line is designed to improve institutional access to global academic resources and integrate the Tertiary Education, Research, Applications and Services (TERAS) platform. The Fund also plans to establish specialized centers for Robotics, Coding, AI, and Cybersecurity in selected institutions across the country.
