The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has finally opened up on why APC Governors are not happy with him. Wike made this revelation during an interview on Arise TV Prime Time on Tuesday, September 16. According to him, the problem did not start today. Wike said APC governors were unhappy from the time he was appointed as FCT Minister, and even when he was Governor of Rivers State. “This thing did not start today. It started at ministerial position. They were not happy that I was Minister of FCT. Also, they were unhappy when I was governor,” Wike said.
The major issue now is Wike’s proposed National Rainbow Coalition a cross-party alliance to mobilize support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. APC Governors, led by Imo State Governor and Chairman of Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, have rejected the coalition. They said they will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance capable of undermining Tinubu’s re-election or affecting APC candidates, But Wike has fired back, describing the governors as “politically lazy”
“They are politically lazy. When you have your local problems, don’t use Mr President as your excuse,” Wike said.
Wike maintained that his support for President Tinubu remains unchanged and has nothing to do with party politics. “I have said I will support the President and I am still supporting him. What has that got to do with my party?”
He also accused Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of championing the campaign against him, and said he has confronted him. Political analysts say APC govs fear the Rainbow Coalition will create parallel structures and confuse voters in states like Rivers, Kwara, Gombe and Cross River, potentially weakening APC candidates while only boosting Tinubu.
