2027: NRM Unveils 38-Member Presidential Campaign Council and Six-Pillar Agenda

The National Rescue Movement, NRM, has inaugurated a 38-member Presidential Campaign Council ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections and unveiled a six-pillar policy agenda for its campaign. The council was inaugurated in Abuja by the party’s National Chairman, Prince Chinedu Obi. Muhammad Garba was named Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council. The party’s presidential candidate, Dr Esther Nkem Okereke, is contesting the 2027 presidential election with Nasir Suleiman Muhammed as her running mate. At the inauguration, the NRM presented its campaign as a platform focused on institutional reform, accountability and economic development. The party unveiled what it described as the “Esther Rescue Nigeria Agenda,” built around six principal policy areas. The first area focuses on public-sector accountability, due process, transparency and measurable performance standards in government. The second centres on economic productivity and employment. The third focuses on human capital development, including quality education, technical competence and accessible healthcare. The fourth pillar covers security, justice and national cohesion. The fifth addresses infrastructure, including reliable electricity, modern transportation, housing and digital connectivity, alongside environmental sustainability. The sixth pillar focuses on science, technology, research, innovation, digital infrastructure, technical and vocational education and entrepreneurship. The party said the agenda is intended to address what it considers major developmental challenges facing Nigeria. NRM National Chairman Chinedu Obi said the party believes Nigeria’s natural resources, agricultural potential, youthful population and entrepreneurial capacity could support sustainable development if backed by stronger institutions and accountability mechanisms. The party also said it would pursue what it described as zero tolerance for corruption. Speaking at the event, Okereke described the campaign council as a “rescue team” and said the party intended to focus its campaign on structure, evidence and peaceful participation. She also directed campaign officials to follow a single chain of command and avoid unauthorised statements and parallel structures. The campaign council was further urged to observe a code of conduct based on non-violence, respect and financial integrity. The NRM’s announcement adds another political platform to the preparations for the 2027 general elections, with parties and political movements increasingly unveiling candidates, campaign structures and policy proposals. The party’s stated agenda will now be subject to public discussion, scrutiny and comparison with the programmes of other political parties as the electoral process progresses.
