Budget Minister Says Nigeria Needs Bigger Fiscal Capacity to Meet Development Goals

The Dangote Group says it generated approximately $17 billion in revenue during the first half of 2026 and is targeting about $36 billion in revenue for the full year. The figures were disclosed by the group’s Chief Strategy Officer, Aliyu Suleiman, during a media briefing at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos. The briefing took place during a visit to the refinery by Kenyan President William Ruto. According to the group, the projected full-year revenue would represent a significant increase from the approximately $18 billion recorded in 2025. Suleiman attributed the group’s performance to investments across several sectors, including cement, sugar, fertiliser, petroleum refining, upstream oil and gas and other businesses. The group has also outlined an ambitious expansion strategy as it seeks to increase its industrial footprint across Africa. The Dangote Group said it executed approximately $50 billion in capital expenditure between 2020 and 2025 and plans to invest substantially more over the next five years. The announcement comes at a time when the Dangote Petroleum Refinery continues to attract attention both within Nigeria and internationally because of its scale and potential impact on the African energy market. During his visit, President William Ruto described the 700,000-barrel-per-day refinery as a major industrial achievement. The Kenyan president’s visit also focused on a proposed $17 billion refinery and petrochemical complex in Lamu, Kenya, in which Dangote Group is expected to play a major role. The proposed Kenyan project forms part of wider plans to expand industrial and energy investments across Africa. For Dangote Group, the latest revenue projection reflects the growing contribution of its different business divisions as the conglomerate pursues its Vision 2030 strategy. If the projected $36 billion revenue is achieved, it would mark a substantial increase compared with the group’s reported 2025 revenue. The company says its long-term ambition is to build globally competitive African businesses while expanding its investments across the continent.
