NANS Southwest Passes Vote of No Confidence in Minister of Power Over Campus Electricity Crisis

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has officially passed a vote of no confidence in the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Power under Chief Adebayo Adelabu.

In a statement issued in Ibadan on Monday, March 9, 2026, the Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, lamented the “persistent electricity crisis” across tertiary institutions in the six southwestern states. According to the student body, the prolonged blackouts have crippled academic research and nighttime studies, especially during this critical examination period.

Beyond academics, NANS raised a serious alarm regarding student safety. The association noted that poorly lit hostels and study centers have created opportunities for criminal activities, including theft and robbery, putting the lives of students at risk.

NANS is now calling on the Federal Government to urgently review the performance of the Ministry of Power and take immediate steps to restore stable electricity to campus communities to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
