VC Prof. Daniel Nwachukwu Appoints New Key Officers

In a strategic move to sharpen administrative efficiency and drive institutional growth, the Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI), Professor Daniel Nwachukwu, has announced the appointment of three seasoned academics to lead critical units within the university.

The appointments, which officially took effect on Monday, April 13, 2026, are part of a broader vision to reposition the Ebonyi-based institution for higher productivity and academic competitiveness.

New Leadership for Key Administrative Units

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that these selections were strictly guided by merit and the proven track records of the appointees. Each officer will serve for an initial period of one year.

Leading the charge in digital transformation is Prof. Rita Alo, who steps in as the Director of ICT, taking over from Dr. I. I. Achi. For the critical role of NELFund Desk Officer, the university has appointed Dr. Edward Ajanwachukwu Okoro, who succeeds Mr. Godfrey Ugochukwu Obetta. Additionally, Dr. Michael Olaolu has been named the TetFund Desk Officer (AST&D), succeeding Dr. Ikechukwu Onwe.

Meet the New Appointees

The incoming team brings a wealth of specialized experience to their respective roles:

Prof. Rita Alo (Director, ICT): A Professor of Computer Science, Alo is no stranger to this terrain. Having previously served as the Head of the Computer Science Department and as an Acting Director of ICT, her return to the helm of the university’s digital infrastructure is expected to accelerate technological innovation on campus.

Dr. Edward Ajanwachukwu Okoro (NELFund Desk Officer): A Reader in the Department of Philosophy, Dr. Okoro will now oversee matters concerning the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund), a vital link for student financial support.

Dr. Michael Olaolu (TetFund Desk Officer, AST&D): Moving from his role as the Acting Head of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, Dr. Olaolu will now manage the Academic Staff Training and Development (AST&D) portfolio under TetFund.

A Vision for Excellence

Professor Nwachukwu noted that building a robust leadership structure is non-negotiable for any university aiming for global standards. By placing these seasoned academics in key administrative slots, the VC intends to foster a culture of transparency and service delivery.

“Effective leadership structures are fundamental to achieving our strategic objectives,” the Vice-Chancellor remarked, reiterating that these changes are a proactive step toward a more efficient and academically vibrant university system.
