Barau Jibrin Rallies Students for Tinubu Re-election at NANS 45th Anniversary

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has called on Nigerian students to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid to ensure the continuity of ongoing education reforms. Speaking on Friday in Abuja while chairing the 45th-anniversary celebration of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Barau emphasized that the administration has demonstrated a genuine commitment to youth empowerment.

During the event, Senator Barau highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a landmark achievement that has expanded access to higher education for students from less privileged backgrounds. He argued that supporting a second term for the current administration would safeguard this trajectory of innovation and reform within the sector.

The Senator, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, noted that education remains the most potent tool for national transformation. He urged the student body to maintain a constructive partnership with the government rather than engaging in confrontational activism, describing the current leadership as “youth-friendly.”

The 45th-anniversary event featured various student leaders and stakeholders who reviewed the association’s journey since its founding in 1980. While the anniversary celebrated the past, the dominant theme remained the political alignment of the student movement ahead of the next electoral cycle.
