LASU, LASUED and LASUSTECH affected
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared an indefinite strike in three Lagos State owned universities.
The affected institutions are Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH).
The decision came after a 14 day deadline given to the Lagos State Government ended without an agreement between both sides.
Why lecturers are on strike
ASUU said the main issue is the implementation of the December 2025 agreement between the Federal Government and the union.
The union wants the Lagos State Government to adopt and implement the agreement in its state owned universities. The issues include allowances and welfare packages for serving and retired academic staff.
Students face another disruption
The strike has affected academic activities in the three universities, leaving many students unsure about lectures, examinations and other academic programmes.
ASUU has asked students and parents to remain calm while discussions continue. The union also said it remains open to dialogue and will return to work when the outstanding issues are properly addressed.
Nationwide strike warning
The development comes as ASUU continues to raise concerns about unresolved issues affecting universities across Nigeria.
Earlier in September, the union warned that it could revive its suspended nationwide strike if issues including parts of the 2025 agreement and unpaid salaries are not resolved.
For now, the current strike affects the three Lagos State owned universities. Students and staff will be watching closely as ASUU and the Lagos State Government continue discussions.
