Florence Pugh is entering another major phase of her career as the Oscar-nominated actress takes on one of her most ambitious roles yet in Netflix’s highly anticipated limited series East of Eden.
Pugh stars as Cathy Ames in the new adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic novel, with the seven-episode series set to premiere on Netflix on October 1, 2026. The production is led by Zoe Kazan, who serves as co-showrunner, writer and executive producer.
The project represents another significant addition to what has become a particularly busy period for the British actress. Alongside East of Eden, Pugh is also appearing in major franchise projects, including Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three
Speaking about East of Eden, Pugh described the experience as deeply personal and praised her collaboration with Kazan.
“It has been the most amazing journey working with Zoe. It has been so special and it’s like releasing our baby. I am very protective of it, and really excited.”
Pugh made the comments while promoting the series, emphasizing her connection to the project and her excitement for audiences to finally see it.
Her latest role also gives audiences a different side of the actress. East of Eden focuses on the multigenerational Trask family saga, with particular attention placed on Cathy Ames, the complex character portrayed by Pugh.
In a recent Vanity Fair cover story, Pugh also spoke about her renewed relationship with her work and the demanding range of characters she is taking on. The publication noted that she is playing a princess, a woman at the center of East of Eden, and a soldier-spy across projects this year.
With East of Eden arriving on Netflix, alongside her continued presence in some of Hollywood’s biggest franchises, Florence Pugh is firmly at the center of a new chapter in her career — one marked by ambitious roles, major productions and increasing global attention.
