Taylor Swift has officially made MTV Video Music Awards history, becoming the most-awarded artist in the history of the VMAs following a major night at the 2026 ceremony in Los Angeles.
Swift entered the ceremony tied with Beyoncé at 30 VMA wins. Her historic night saw her add three more awards to her collection, taking her career total to 33 VMAs and moving her ahead of Beyoncé’s previous record.
Among her victories was Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia,” one of the biggest prizes of the ceremony. She also received the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, recognising her work behind the camera and her contribution to visual storytelling.
Swift also won Best Direction for “Opalite,” further highlighting the growing role she has played in directing and shaping the visual world around her music. According to the Associated Press, Swift said she has been involved in roughly 60 music videos, including 18 that she wrote and directed.
While accepting Video of the Year, Swift dedicated the honour to the late country music legend Dolly Parton, whom she described as the “ultimate showgirl.”
The 2026 VMAs also featured major moments from Madonna, BTS, LISA and Nirvana, making it a major night for music and pop culture. Madonna led the ceremony with seven wins, while Taylor Swift’s record-breaking achievement became one of the night’s defining stories.
