Confirm Your NELFUND Disbursement Status and Resolve the Verified but Not Paid Error for the 2026 2027 Academic Session

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially disbursed over N206 billion to 1.16 million beneficiaries across 270 tertiary institutions nationwide. While this milestone marks a significant expansion of the federal student loan program, thousands of candidates are reporting a “Verified” status on their dashboard without receiving their tuition or upkeep payments.

If your 2026/2027 application has remained in the verification stage for an extended period, it indicates a critical administrative gap between the NELFUND portal and your institution’s internal data reconciliation process.

Why Your NELFUND Status is Stuck on Verified

A “Verified” status on the NELFUND portal confirms that your NIN, JAMB registration, and matriculation details are authentic. However, actual disbursement only occurs once your institution completes the secondary verification of your current enrollment and fee structure.

The primary reasons for this payment bottleneck include:

Institutional Data Gaps: Payments are paused if your school has not yet uploaded the verified list of currently registered students for the 2026 session.

Bank Detail Inconsistencies: For upkeep allowances, any mismatch between your NELFUND profile name and the name on your BVN-linked bank account will trigger a disbursement failure.

PostApproval Reconciliation: There is often a technical gap between the “Approved” status and the moment funds reflect in either the school’s account or your personal account.

Verified Steps to Resolve the Payment Delay

To move your application to the “Disbursed” stage, follow these ruggedly verified actions immediately:

Check Your Institution’s NELFUND Desk: Universities like Delta State University (DELSU) and UNIBEN have established dedicated support desks in their Bursary or Student Affairs units. Confirm if your data has been formally cleared and sent back to NELFUND.

Validate Your Profile Information: Log in to the official portal to ensure your matriculation number, course of study, and bank details are 100% accurate. Minor errors here are the leading cause of “Verified” status stagnation.

Utilize Exam Clearance Policies: NELFUND has commended institutions that allow “Verified” students to sit for examinations while disbursement is finalized. Check your school’s latest internal memo to see if you are eligible for this waiver.

File an Official Support Ticket: If your institutional verification is complete but payment remains pending, use the official “Contact Us” link on the NELFUND website to file a complaint. Avoid unofficial third-party agents.

2026 Disbursement Breakdown

Of the N206.29 billion total disbursed, N128.84 billion has been paid directly to tertiary institutions for tuition charges, while N77.45 billion has been released to students as upkeep allowances. With 1.9 million total applications received, NELFUND remains the primary interest-free financing route for the 2026/2027 session.
