More than 10,000 participants are expected to converge on Lagos for the 2026 edition of the Creative Africa Nexus, popularly known as CANEX Weekend. The major creative economy event is scheduled to take place in Lagos from November 5 to 8, 2026, bringing together creatives, investors, policymakers, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders from across Africa and beyond. The Federal Government said the event is expected to provide opportunities for Nigerian and African creatives to showcase their talents, connect with investors and explore new markets. CANEX covers several areas of the creative economy, including music, film, fashion, literature, visual arts, food, sports and technology. According to government officials, participants will have opportunities to engage with potential investors, financiers, distributors and international business partners. The event is also expected to feature exhibitions and business activities where states can showcase their creative products, cultural assets and investment opportunities. All 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to participate through dedicated pavilions. Officials have described the event as an opportunity to strengthen Nigeria’s position within Africa’s rapidly expanding creative economy. Security preparations are also being made ahead of the gathering, with the Nigeria Police Force expected to provide security for participants and visitors attending the event. The 2026 edition is particularly significant because it will mark CANEX’s first major outing in West Africa. With thousands of participants expected, the event is likely to attract considerable attention to Nigeria’s creative industries while providing opportunities for networking, business development and international exposure. The Federal Government has continued to identify the creative sector as an area capable of generating employment, attracting investment and expanding Nigeria’s cultural influence internationally.
