Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has distanced herself from the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council after her name appeared among entertainment personalities listed in the party’s campaign structure. Abraham’s name was included in the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate, alongside prominent figures including Jide Kosoko, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Akintola, Pasuma, Obesere and Adewale Ayuba. The list was released on Thursday ahead of the council’s scheduled inauguration in Lagos. However, Abraham quickly took to her Instagram Story to clarify that she was not part of the campaign council. «“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently. I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee.”» The actress later provided further clarification on Friday, explaining that her decision was not prompted by online criticism. According to Abraham, she woke up to discover that her name had been included on a list she knew nothing about. She said she had previously made it clear that she was not interested in politics and had therefore rejected the reported inclusion. The development has attracted attention because Abraham was publicly involved in the 2023 presidential election, when she supported Bola Tinubu. Her political stance at the time generated considerable discussion and criticism on social media. The Lagos APC campaign structure, meanwhile, places Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture Toke Benson-Awoyinka as Director of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate, with veteran actor Jide Kosoko as Co-Director and Eniola Badmus as Deputy Director. Despite Abraham’s public rejection, reports indicate that her name remained on the published 33-member directorate list. For now, the actress has made her position clear: she says she is staying out of politics and does not regard herself as a member of the campaign council.
