The Nigerian Armed Forces have reported significant military operations across the country, saying troops neutralised 554 terrorists between July and September 2026. The figures were disclosed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, during a Defence Headquarters briefing in Abuja on Thursday. According to the military, troops also arrested 1,333 suspects and rescued 1,736 kidnapped civilians during the three-month period. The operations covered several security theatres involving terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft, armed criminality and other security threats. The military also reported the recovery of 244 firearms and 8,160 rounds of ammunition. In addition, troops reportedly destroyed 104 illegal refining sites and recovered more than 1.61 million litres of stolen petroleum products. For September alone, the Armed Forces said troops neutralised 52 terrorists and other criminals, arrested 350 suspects and rescued 655 kidnapped civilians. In the North-East, Operation Hadin Kai recorded 27 terrorists neutralised during September, while 49 suspects were arrested and 103 kidnapped victims rescued across Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states. The military also reported the surrender of insurgents and their family members during the month. The latest figures provide an overview of the scale of military operations being conducted across Nigeria as security agencies continue efforts to tackle terrorism, kidnapping and other forms of violent crime. However, security challenges remain a major concern in several parts of the country, with communities continuing to demand stronger protection and faster responses to attacks. The military says operations will continue as troops work to disrupt terrorist networks, criminal groups and their sources of logistics.
