Osun Governor Adeleke’s Ally Emir Ajagungbade Shot Dead in Ile-Ife

A political associate of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as “Emir Ajagungbade,” has been shot dead in Ile-Ife, Osun State. Oyeyemi, who was also an Accord Party chieftain, was reportedly killed at the Mayfair Garage in Ile-Ife on Sunday, September 13, amid a dispute reportedly connected to the control and leadership of a motor park. According to reports, the incident occurred while Oyeyemi and his associates were at the motor park. Details surrounding the confrontation remain under investigation, while reports have linked the incident to tensions involving different groups over control of the park. The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the shooting and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Oyeyemi’s death. Reacting to the killing, Governor Ademola Adeleke directed the Commissioner of Police in Osun State to immediately arrest all persons allegedly involved in the incident. The governor also called for calm and directed security agencies to restore normalcy around the affected motor parks. Adeleke further announced plans to reintroduce a Park Management System across the state, saying the measure would help address disputes and restore order in motor parks and garages. Authorities are yet to publicly establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing or announce those responsible. Police investigations are ongoing. The incident has raised fresh concerns about violence linked to disputes over motor park control and transport activities in Osun State.
