Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has ordered the deployment of traffic officers to Kara Bridge and other affected sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as authorities intensify efforts to ease the worsening gridlock along the busy highway. The move is aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing the hardship being experienced by motorists and commuters travelling between Lagos and Ogun State. The Kara Bridge area has witnessed heavy congestion in recent days, with motorists spending extended periods on the road as traffic builds up around the bridge and adjoining sections of the expressway. Governor Abiodun directed officers of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) to work with other relevant agencies to manage the situation, regulate the movement of vehicles and respond quickly to obstructions and breakdowns. Traffic officials are expected to maintain a stronger presence around the affected areas, particularly at points where motorists attempt to divert or drive against traffic in an effort to escape the congestion. The governor also appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic officers and obey instructions issued on the highway. Motorists were urged to avoid reckless driving, illegal overtaking and driving against traffic, which could further compound the situation. The congestion has also been linked to ongoing rehabilitation work around the Kara Bridge area, where available road space has been affected by construction activities. With thousands of commuters relying on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway every day, the traffic situation has generated significant frustration among road users. Authorities are therefore expected to sustain traffic control operations around Kara Bridge and other adjoining sections until movement along the corridor improves. Motorists using the expressway have been advised to plan their journeys carefully, remain patient and follow official traffic directives as efforts continue to restore smoother movement on the highway.
