AE-FUNAI and OPay Seal ₦60 Million Scholarship Deal for OHANIVO Students
Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI) has officially partnered with OPay Digital Services Limited to launch a massive 10-year scholarship scheme aimed at supporting indigent students. The initiative, worth ₦60 million, is specifically designed to provide financial relief to students from Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo (OHANIVO) Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State.
The partnership was made possible through the efforts of Rt. Hon. Nkemkanma Kama, the member representing the OHANIVO Federal Constituency in the National Assembly. Under this agreement, 20 deserving students will receive yearly scholarships for the next decade, ensuring that financial constraints do not truncate their academic journeys.
During the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Daniel Nwachukwu, expressed deep gratitude to the lawmaker for attracting such a vital intervention. He noted that supporting brilliant but financially challenged students is a top priority for his administration, especially as the current economic climate in Nigeria puts a heavy strain on parents and guardians.

Long-term Commitment: The scheme is set to run for 10 years, providing a decade of academic security.
Broad Eligibility: Students across all levels of study are eligible to benefit, regardless of their current year.
National Reach: This is part of OPay’s broader CSR initiative spanning 24 tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Hon. Nkemkanma Kama, who also recently donated and installed 50 solar-powered streetlights on the AE-FUNAI campus, urged the beneficiaries to remain disciplined and see the scholarship as a call to academic excellence. On his part, OPay’s CSR Manager, Mr. Itoro Udo, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to investing in human capital to empower the next generation of Nigerian professionals.
The event concluded with the formal signing of the MoU by the University Registrar, Barr. T. Ifeanyi Igwe, witnessed by the VC, university management, and the Student Union Government (SUG) President, Comrade Kelvin Ipere Nwankwo.
