Residents of Odenigbo, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, have been left shocked following the killing of prominent politician Prince Ikechukwu Oloto, popularly known as “Okanga Mo.” Oloto, aged about 53, was reportedly found in a pool of blood inside his residence on Thursday, September 17, 2026, after suffering deep suspected machete injuries. The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the incident on Friday, September 18, as details surrounding the fatal attack continued to generate concern across Nsukka. According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the police received a report at approximately 5:45 p.m. that a man had been found seriously injured at his residence. Police operatives reportedly responded to the scene and discovered Oloto with deep suspected machete cuts to his head and stomach. He was rushed to a hospital for emergency medical attention. However, the attending doctor later confirmed his death. His remains have since been deposited at a mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while the police have launched a manhunt for the suspected assailant or assailants. Although reports circulating on social media alleged that unidentified gunmen attacked Oloto at his home, the exact circumstances of the incident have not been fully established. Some accounts also claimed that a knife was used during the attack. However, the police have publicly referred to deep suspected machete cuts and have not confirmed the specific weapon allegedly used. Authorities have yet to identify any suspect or establish the motive behind the killing. Oloto was a prominent figure in Nsukka’s political circles. Reports indicate that he had been associated with the All Progressives Congress before joining the African Democratic Congress alongside other aggrieved party members. However, the police have not established any connection between the killing and political activities. The Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Chinedu Asogwa, condemned the incident and expressed sympathy to the deceased’s family. Asogwa reportedly assured residents that security agencies and relevant government structures would work to identify those responsible and bring them to justice. Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Command continues to investigate the case and has commenced efforts to track down the suspected perpetrators.
