The Nigeria Police Force has rescued nine kidnapped victims and arrested suspects during a series of operations conducted across several states. The operations were carried out between September 17 and 18 as police formations in different parts of the country intensified efforts against kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes. One of the major operations took place in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State, where police rescued eight people who had reportedly been abducted after gunmen attacked a commercial bus. The victims were located in Omla Forest around the Ankpechi-Ogobia community following a search operation by security personnel. The rescued victims were subsequently evacuated and taken for medical attention. However, police said one of the victims, identified as 34-year-old Uche Okike, died from gunshot injuries sustained during the attack. Other security operations were also reported in states including Kwara, Sokoto, Enugu, Ekiti, Bauchi, Kaduna, Cross River and Nasarawa. The police said the operations formed part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal networks and protect communities and road users. Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the incidents and pursue suspects who remain at large. The latest operations come amid continuing security concerns in several parts of Nigeria, particularly over kidnapping and attacks on travellers.
