FCT Police Warn Criminals to Stay Away From Abuja During Independence Celebrations

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has warned criminal elements to stay away from Abuja as Nigeria celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary. The warning comes as security agencies intensify operations across the nation’s capital to ensure peaceful celebrations. The FCT Police Command assured residents that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to protect lives and property during the Independence Day celebrations. The command also warned individuals planning to engage in criminal activities to desist or leave the territory. Security personnel have been deployed across strategic areas of Abuja, with increased patrols and surveillance expected around locations where large numbers of people may gather. The security measures are aimed at preventing criminal activities and responding quickly to any security incidents that may occur during the celebrations. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps also announced the deployment of 3,000 personnel across the FCT ahead of the anniversary. The personnel are expected to cover strategic locations including markets, motor parks, recreational centres, shopping malls and other areas considered vulnerable or likely to attract large crowds. Specialised units and covert operatives have also been deployed as part of efforts to monitor potential threats. The NSCDC said its personnel would work alongside other security agencies to protect critical national assets and infrastructure. Meanwhile, residents have been advised to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or movements to security agencies. The police and other security authorities have also urged residents to cooperate with security personnel during the celebrations. The FCT Police Command said it would maintain security operations throughout the Independence Day festivities. Authorities are particularly concerned about preventing robbery, vandalism, crowd-related incidents and other criminal activities during a period when many residents are moving around Abuja for celebrations. Residents have consequently been encouraged to enjoy the Independence celebrations while remaining alert and complying with lawful security instructions.
