INEC Sets October 9 for Nationwide PVC Collection Ahead of 2027 Elections


The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced October 9, 2026, as the date for the commencement of nationwide collection of newly issued Permanent Voter Cards. The announcement comes as preparations intensify for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. INEC said the PVC collection exercise would enable newly registered voters and other eligible citizens to obtain their cards ahead of the elections. The commission has also been carrying out nationwide consultations and readiness assessments as it prepares for the polls.According to INEC, more than 10.7 million people were recorded during the recent voter registration exercise. The commission has urged eligible Nigerians to collect their cards and participate in the electoral process. INEC has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027. The electoral body has also acknowledged operational challenges that need to be addressed before the elections, including logistics, technical issues and public confidence. The commission has directed officials to close identified gaps and ensure that personnel comply with its code of conduct. The October 9 PVC collection date therefore marks another important stage in preparations for the 2027 elections.
