JAMB Reaches Major Milestone With Release of 1.8 Million UTME Results
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially crossed a massive threshold in the ongoing 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) exercise. By Monday, April 20, the Board confirmed that it has successfully processed and released the results of over 1.8 million candidates nationwide.
This milestone comes after a busy weekend where the Board worked to clear technical backlogs that had briefly delayed the release of results for those who sat the exams on Friday and Saturday. According to official updates from JAMB’s headquarters, the system is now fully optimized, allowing for a smoother flow of data from the various Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers to the central processing servers.
Candidates who participated in the examination are reminded that the process for checking scores remains strictly via SMS. To access your result, you must use the phone number that was used for your initial registration. Simply send the word “UTMERESULT” as a text message to either 55019 or 66019. JAMB has reiterated that result slips are not yet available for printing on their website, so students should ignore any third-party websites claiming to offer “portal checking” services.
While celebrating this milestone, the Board also noted that it is still investigating a small percentage of results for potential examination malpractice. Results for candidates in centers where technical hitches occurred or where suspicious activities were flagged are being held for further review. JAMB maintains that its “no-tolerance” policy on cheating is vital to ensuring that only qualified students gain admission into Nigerian higher institutions.
As the 2026 UTME season winds down, the focus now shifts to the post-UTME phase. With nearly 1.9 million results now in the hands of candidates, universities and polytechnics are expected to begin announcing their cut-off marks and screening dates in the coming weeks.
