JAMB Restores CAPS, Sets October 31 Deadline for Public University Admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has restored its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) following a temporary disruption and has reminded public universities of the deadline for completing the 2026 admission process. The restoration of CAPS is expected to allow institutions and candidates to continue admission-related activities on the platform. JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System is the platform used in the management and processing of admissions into tertiary institutions. The temporary disruption had generated concern among prospective university students, particularly candidates waiting for their institutions to process or update their admission status. With the system restored, JAMB has urged institutions to accelerate the admission process and ensure that candidates are not unnecessarily delayed. For candidates seeking admission into public universities, the development is particularly important because admission processing must be completed within the stipulated timeline. JAMB has set October 31, 2026, as the deadline for public universities to complete the relevant admission processes for the 2026 admission exercise. Candidates are therefore expected to continue monitoring their admission status through the appropriate JAMB channels and their respective institutions. The restoration also means universities can continue using CAPS to process admissions and make necessary updates. JAMB has repeatedly stressed the importance of institutions completing admissions within the approved timeframe to ensure that the admission exercise progresses smoothly. Prospective students who are yet to receive admission are advised to remain attentive to updates from both JAMB and their schools, particularly as the deadline approaches. The October 31 deadline is expected to increase activity among institutions still processing candidates for the 2026/2027 academic session.
