President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about four weeks in Europe on what the Presidency described as a working vacation. The President arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday evening, September 29. He departed Nigeria on August 30 and spent time in London and Paris during the period. According to the Presidency, Tinubu remained engaged with official matters while abroad and held meetings connected to investment and international relations. During his stay in France, he held engagements with French President Emmanuel Macron and met representatives of the Bolloré Group over possible investment opportunities in Nigeria’s creative and digital economy. His return comes ahead of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary celebrations. The President is expected to participate in activities marking the anniversary in Lagos, including events connected to the October 1 celebrations. The Federal Government has announced a relatively low-key programme for this year’s Independence anniversary. The programme includes an Independence Day Public Lecture on September 30 and a nationwide presidential broadcast scheduled for October 1. Tinubu’s return also means the President is back in the country as preparations intensify for the final quarter of 2026 and as political and economic attention increasingly turns toward 2027. The Presidency has described the President’s foreign stay as a working vacation and said he remained engaged with affairs of state during the period.
