Air Peace has explained the cancellation of its Abuja–Maiduguri flight on Saturday, attributing the disruption to a shortage of aviation fuel in Abuja and a subsequent restriction affecting operations at Maiduguri Airport. The airline said the initial delays to its Abuja operations were caused by the unavailability of Jet A1 aviation fuel, a situation it said also affected other airlines operating from the airport. According to Air Peace, operations eventually resumed after aviation fuel became available. However, the Abuja–Maiduguri service could not proceed because the airline was unable to arrive in Maiduguri within the airport’s permitted operating window. The airline said the Maiduguri control tower had earlier granted an extension for the aircraft to arrive beyond sunset but later withdrew the extension. As a result, the flight could not operate as scheduled. Air Peace said it made arrangements for affected passengers, including providing refreshments and hotel accommodation. The incident has again drawn attention to the operational challenges that can affect domestic air travel, particularly when aviation fuel availability and airport operating restrictions combine to disrupt scheduled services. The airline’s explanation was issued following the cancellation and delays experienced by passengers travelling through Abuja.
