Enugu Air Set to Launch Direct Enugu–Douala Flights September 23

Enugu Air is set to begin its first international route on September 23, connecting Enugu directly with Douala, Cameroon, in a move that will expand the airline’s operations beyond Nigeria. The new route will connect Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu with Douala International Airport, creating a direct air link between southeastern Nigeria and Cameroon. The airline announced the development as part of its regional expansion. According to the airline’s Chief Operating Officer, Ugonna Agubuokwu, the new service is intended to make travel between Nigeria and Cameroon easier while supporting business, family and commercial connections between the two countries. The Enugu–Douala service is scheduled to operate twice weekly, on Mondays and Wednesdays, according to the airline’s filed schedules. The initial schedule shows flights departing Enugu at 12:45 p.m. and arriving in Douala at 1:45 p.m. The return service is scheduled to leave Douala at 2:30 p.m. and arrive in Enugu at 3:30 p.m. The service is planned to operate with an Embraer E170 aircraft, with reports indicating a 76-seat configuration. The launch marks an important expansion for Enugu Air, which currently operates domestic services linking Enugu with cities including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Owerri, Asaba, Benin City and Warri. The airline is also marketing connections for passengers travelling from Lagos and Abuja through Enugu to Douala, potentially allowing travellers from those major Nigerian cities to connect with the new international service. The development is expected to provide travellers from southeastern Nigeria with a direct alternative to travelling through other airports or using lengthy overland routes to reach Cameroon. The Enugu–Douala route is also being presented as part of a broader plan to position Enugu as a regional aviation hub connecting southeastern Nigeria with destinations across West and Central Africa. Enugu State officials have previously said the Douala route is expected to be followed by further regional expansion. With the first Enugu–Douala flight scheduled for September 23, 2026, attention will now turn to the commencement of commercial operations and how the new route performs as Enugu Air takes its first step into international aviation.
